Mosier House
The design for this home provides a threshold to explore the nature of the Columbia Gorge. The long ‘bar shaped’ forms of the building follow the natural contours of the north-facing hillside.
Oriented to views of the majestic Columbia River, the ‘northern bar’ contains the primary living spaces and the master suite, with an expansive river view and the gentle northern light. The view is framed by a custom wood window wall composition of fixed and operable glass panels. The ‘southern bar’ creates a more sheltered threshold to the entry, kitchen, study, and garage.
The interior walls forming the southern rooms were designed as a warm wood lined library book / storage wall, with white ceilings – in contrast to the character of the north bar. The central stair and fireplace are made of darkened steel and plaster, as a central sculptural element providing access to lower level bedrooms and guest realm.
