Dolph Park House

Portland, Oregon

One of our smallest but favorite projects is this home for a physicist / contractor, an economist, and two athletic teenagers. This program demanded a radical remodel of a simple 1940’s post-war home.

The design had to be strategic: achieve the family goals of a modern lifestyle transformation; adhere to a modest budget; decide what to extract and what to honor; and unify an exterior of lava stone, brick and aluminum siding. We created an open plan while respecting the spatial quirkiness and richness of the existing home. Each area was populated by a series of simple custom crafted elements that respond to the activities of daily living: cooking, gathering, relaxing, study.
